Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. You can lower the deposit by adding the operator’s damage waiver. Operator terms: Lessor keeps yacht insured for all navigational risks including special average and all risks. Lessor insures against third-party claims.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~45 HP engine burn roughly 3.6 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 76 L ≈ €148 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Are there limits on where and how we can sail?
You may use the yacht only as a pleasure vessel within the cruising area named in your charter, between safe ports and anchorages. Carrying passengers or goods for trade, racing without our written consent, and dangerous water sports are not allowed.
Can the captain's competence be checked?
Yes. We must approve your chosen captain and may ask for evidence of their qualifications. If we judge their skills insufficient for the yacht, we can ask you to arrange a replacement for the safety of boat and crew.
Can we bring animals aboard?
No animals may be brought or kept on board without our specific consent.
What happens if the boat breaks down at sea?
Tell us immediately. If a fault you didn't cause disables the yacht for more than 48 consecutive hours, the charter fee is suspended until she's usable again; longer disablement can entitle you to end the charter and recover the unused portion of the fee.
What are our duties in bad weather?
If winds exceed force 6 Beaufort, the captain must not leave port, or must make for the nearest safe harbour. At anchor near the coast the yacht must never be left without adequate watch.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
