Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Owner insures yacht against fire, marine and collision risks and third party damage per Belgian law. Charterer relieved of liability for covered losses unless caused by charterer's negligence or willful default.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~54 HP engine burn roughly 4.3 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 90 L ≈ €158 at €1.75/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Belgium?
Agreement entered into on basis of charterer's written declaration of competence in sailing, seamanship and navigation.
Does our crew need sailing experience?
Yes, your party should include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced sailor. We may ask you to demonstrate your sailing and navigation skills at sea before handover, and time spent on this check counts as part of your charter.
Are there restrictions on how we can use the yacht?
The yacht is for your private pleasure only. Please don't use her for racing (unless we agree in writing), for towing other craft except in an emergency, or sublet her to anyone else. You should also not carry more people than the documents allow.
Can we sail in any weather?
For everyone's safety, please don't leave port or anchorage when the wind is, or is forecast to be, over force 6 on the Beaufort scale, when authorities have banned sailing, or when the yacht or her equipment isn't in full working order.
Are there limits on how far we can cruise?
Please plan your itinerary so you reach your farthest port within the first third of the charter, and so that two days before the end you're no more than 40 nautical miles from the return base.
What should we do if something breaks or there's an accident?
Get our consent before carrying out any repair, keep the receipts so we can refund repairs caused by normal wear, and report the yacht's position and condition to us at reasonable intervals. After any accident, ask the nearest port authority to record what happened and notify us at the same time.
