Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: All yachts fully insured against damage to hull, gear, equipment and third party liability. Insurance does not cover personal belongings or injuries.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
What sailing qualifications do we need on board?
For a bareboat charter at least two crew members must hold a sailing certificate, or sufficient experience that we assess from a sailing-experience resume we'll ask you to complete. For a skippered or crewed charter, only your love of the sea is required.
Can you check our sailing competence before we set off?
Yes. If we're not satisfied with your crew's competence in sailing, seamanship and navigation, we may place a skipper aboard at your expense for as long as we consider necessary for safety.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The boat is for your private pleasure only. You may not race it, tow other craft (except in an emergency), take it outside Greek waters, or sublet it, without our written consent.
How many people can be on board?
The number of people aboard at sea must not exceed the maximum the boat is registered for, and everyone aboard must be on the crew list.
How should I plan my route?
Plan your itinerary so you reach the farthest port within the first third of the charter, and so that two days before the end you're within about 40 nautical miles of the return port.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
