Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Renter responsible for damages to furnishings, equipment and inventory.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Can we bring pets on board?
Pets are only allowed with our specific prior consent. Please ask us before booking if you'd like to bring an animal.
Is the boat allowed to take part in races or watersports?
No. Without our written authorisation the boat may not be used in regattas or competitive events, or for dangerous watersports that could compromise its safety. You also may not carry passengers or cargo for hire.
What happens in bad weather?
You must not leave the mooring when the authorities prohibit sailing or when sea conditions could endanger the people or the boat. We aren't responsible for delays or interrupted cruising caused by weather or port-authority orders, and the charter period still runs during those days.
How should we return the boat?
Please return the boat clean and in the same good condition you received it, with pots, dishes and everyday items washed. If extra cleaning is needed a 100 euro charge applies, and the tank must be refilled or a 40 euro refuelling service fee plus fuel cost is added.
What should we do if the boat breaks down at sea?
Notify us immediately of any damage or breakdown. You may only continue sailing if it won't worsen the problem or endanger anyone, and you must not carry out repairs without our authorisation first.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
