Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charter customer liable for all damage caused by self or crew to third parties and yacht, equipment or accessories, especially from incorrect operation or poor maintenance.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Do I need to be near the return port before the charter ends?
Yes. In the last 24 hours before the end you should keep the boat close enough to the return port that you can get back on time even in bad weather. Weather doesn't excuse a late return except in genuine force majeure, and a late return brings a pro-rata charge plus any loss it causes the next guests.
When should I stay in port for weather?
Don't leave a safe, sheltered port or berth if the forecast shows wind of 7 Beaufort or more for your planned leg. If a sheltered spot becomes unsafe due to an unexpected change, head for the nearest protected harbour.
Can I sail outside the agreed area, or at night?
The agreed sea area may only be left with our express consent. In uncertain or unusual conditions we may further restrict the area in space or time, including imposing a night-sailing ban.
Are there things I'm not allowed to do on board?
Please don't sublet or pass the boat to others, carry more people than the agreed crew list, bring animals or dangerous goods, or take part in regattas or commercial use without our prior written consent. Wear only clean, non-marking boat shoes on board.
Will you check the skipper's competence before handover?
Yes. We may check the skipper's ability to navigate before handing over the boat and ask for proof of relevant experience for the agreed area. If the skipper is clearly not capable, we may arrange a skipper at your cost or decline to hand over the boat.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
