Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Extended skipper's liability insurance strongly recommended
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Do I need to prove my sailing experience?
Yes. You must be a competent seaman with enough experience to handle the yacht, or provide a responsible skipper who is. If you or your skipper lack the required licence or certificate of competence for the boat class, we may decline to hand over the yacht or arrange a skipper at your expense.
Are there limits on where I can sail?
You may leave the charter company's sailing area only with our prior written consent, and you must follow the host country's rules and register and deregister with the harbour master.
What uses of the boat are not allowed?
You can't use the yacht commercially, carry passengers belonging to third parties, sublet or rent it without our written consent, transport dangerous goods, or make any alterations to the boat or its equipment.
Is there a wind limit for leaving harbour?
Yes. Please don't leave the sheltered harbour when the wind is forecast at force 7 Beaufort or higher, and familiarise yourself with the sailing area's currents and water levels before you set off.
What should I do if something goes wrong at sea?
Notify us immediately by phone in the event of damage, collision or any unusual occurrence, and record it with the harbour master or doctor as needed. Any repairs must be approved by us first, keep the replaced parts and receipts, and if towing is needed always use your own line without agreeing any salvage price.
