Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. You can lower the deposit by adding the operator’s damage waiver. Operator terms: The boat is delivered insured with (a) a hull (kasko) policy up to total loss and (b) the mandatory third-party liability policy for damage unintentionally caused to third parties by navigation or by the boat being afloat.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~70 HP engines burn roughly 5.6 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 118 L ≈ €230 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Can I bring my dog or other pet on board?
No, animals are not allowed on board at all.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
Yes. The boat is for recreational use by you and your crew only, so no carrying paying passengers or goods and no commercial activity. You also can't enter regattas, tow other boats except in a real emergency, or tie up alongside other boats; breaking that last rule costs EUR 500.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
You must respect any port authority bans and must not sail in sea conditions above force 6 or when forecasts warn of dangerous weather. If you sail against these rules, you are liable for any damage to the boat. Plan your route so you can get back on time, returning early if the forecast turns bad.
Where am I allowed to sail?
The charts we supply cover a recommended sailing area, chosen with the boat's size, distances and port facilities in mind. If you want to go beyond it, you need to bring your own detailed charts for those waters. We also ask you to contact us at least once a week to report your position.
What should I do if something breaks during my charter?
Tell us immediately and don't carry out any repair without our authorisation. If the breakdown isn't your fault and affects the engine, transmission, rigging, sails or batteries for more than 12 hours, we let you make up the lost time, but we don't give cash refunds.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
