Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer responsible for all damage or failures occurring while yacht in Charterer's responsibility that are not result of normal and natural wear.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~114 HP engines burn roughly 9.1 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 191 L ≈ €372 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not for this boat — the operator charters it without a licence requirement. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Who needs to be in my crew?
Your party should include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member, and the total number on board may not exceed the yacht's certified passenger capacity.
Could I be asked to prove my sailing competence?
Yes. We may ask you and your crew to demonstrate that you can handle the yacht safely by taking her out with us aboard. If we're not satisfied, we can place an experienced sailor on board at your cost for as long as we feel is needed for safety.
Are there limits on how and where I can use the yacht?
The yacht is for your private pleasure only, so no racing, no towing other craft except in emergencies, no subletting, and you must stay within Greek waters. Only people on the crew manifest may be aboard.
How should I plan my route over the week?
Please plan so you reach your farthest port of call within the first third of the charter, and so that two days before the end you're within 40 nautical miles of the return point.
What do I do if something breaks or there's an accident at sea?
Stay in touch with us by phone about the yacht's position and condition, and report any damage right away. For an accident you should also have the nearest Port Authority record what happened, and get our consent before arranging repairs so we can reimburse you.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
