Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer must possess adequate health insurance valid in European Union for self and crew.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Where are we allowed to sail?
The recommended cruising area covers Sicily and the southern Tyrrhenian Sea. If you'd like to sail beyond it, you'll need to obtain the detailed nautical charts for those waters yourself.
Are there any restrictions on how we can use the boat?
The boat is for the use of you and your listed crew only. Carrying cargo or paying passengers, any commercial activity, taking part in regattas, and towing or being towed (except in genuine emergency) are not allowed.
Can we bring a pet on board?
We're sorry, but no animals may be kept on board.
What happens in bad weather?
Please respect any port authority orders and do not sail in seas above force six, or whenever the forecast warns of dangerous conditions. Plan your itinerary so you can return on time, coming back early if rough weather is expected.
What should we do if something breaks at sea?
Contact us immediately and don't carry out any repairs without our authorisation. You may continue sailing only if it won't worsen the damage or endanger anyone, and repair or assistance requests are handled between 08:00 and 20:00.
