Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer responsible for all damage occurring while yacht in his responsibility except normal and natural wear.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~90 HP engines burn roughly 7.2 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 151 L ≈ €294 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Can we race the boat or use it to tow other craft?
No. The yacht is for your private pleasure only, so racing is not allowed unless we agree to it in advance and racing insurance is paid, and towing other vessels is forbidden except in a genuine emergency.
Are there limits on where we can sail?
Yes. You must stay within Greek waters, and we ask that you plan your route so that your furthest point of call is reached within the first third of the charter, returning to within about 40 nautical miles of the handover port for the final days.
Can we sail at night?
You may sail at night only with all navigation lights working, and you must never leave port when the authorities have prohibited sailing, when the boat has unrepaired damage, or when weather conditions make safety doubtful.
Might we be asked to prove our sailing experience?
Yes. We may ask you and your crew to demonstrate your competence by handling the yacht at sea with us aboard. If we are not satisfied, we may end the agreement or place a skipper on board at your expense for as long as we judge necessary for safety.
How many people can be on board?
Only the people listed on the crew and passenger manifest may be aboard, up to the maximum number stated in your charter conditions, and your party should include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
