Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The owner insures the yacht against liability, damage to the yacht (except lost or stolen equipment), theft and burglary, minus the deductible. Neither the owner nor the insurer is liable for personal items brought aboard or injury to persons aboard.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~80 HP engines burn roughly 6.4 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 134 L ≈ €235 at €1.75/L — scale it to your own plans.
Where am I allowed to sail?
Your charter is limited to Cuban national waters, and you may not leave them under any circumstances. The restricted area off Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs) must also be strictly avoided.
Can I sail at night?
Yes, but with limits. At night or in poor visibility you may only navigate seaward of the 10 m depth contour or in marked and lit waterways, and night cruising inside reef areas is not allowed.
What happens if a storm or hurricane threatens during my trip?
If there is an elevated risk of tropical storms, you must follow the base's instructions on routes, ports and anchorages (hurricane holes) exactly.
Who can come aboard, and what do you need from us beforehand?
Only as many people as the yacht is equipped for, and only those on the officially approved crew list. We need your completed crew list at least 14 days before departure so local permissions can be arranged in time.
What should I do if something breaks during the charter?
Small wear-and-tear repairs under EUR 50 can be arranged by you, but anything larger needs the owner's approval first. Only specialists should do repairs, and you should keep all receipts and replaced parts. For serious damage or theft, get an official record from the harbor master or police and contact us as soon as you can.
