Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~150 HP engines burn roughly 12 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 252 L ≈ €491 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
Not personally — a skipper is included with this boat and holds the licence. Generally, though: The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
What is the APA and do I have to pay it?
The APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance) is an advance toward your extra onboard costs, usually 25-30% of the charter fee. It is normally sent to the yacht with your second payment. The Commander keeps you updated on spending, gives you a receipted statement before you disembark and returns any unspent balance.
Is tipping the crew expected?
Tips are always at your discretion. A customary tip is about 5-10% of the rental fee, depending on the service you received. You give it to the Commander, who shares it among the crew.
Are there extra charges if I start or finish the charter somewhere other than the usual base?
Yes, the owners may charge delivery and redelivery fees if your charter begins or ends at a base other than the yacht's usual one. Please check this with us before booking.
How and when do I pay for my charter?
You pay 50% of the rental fee when the rental agreement is concluded, to confirm your booking. The balance, including the remaining 50%, the APA, any transfer charges and VAT, is due one month before the charter starts.
