Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. You can lower the deposit by adding the operator’s damage waiver. Operator terms: All ships have hull insurance and appropriate insurance policies against damage to persons and third parties. Insurance does not cover damage to client's personal property, deliberately caused damage, or damage from client's lack of diligence.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~90 HP engines burn roughly 7.2 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 151 L ≈ €282 at €1.87/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in Croatia?
At least one crew member must hold a recognised sailing licence (ICC or national equivalent) plus a VHF/SRC radio operator certificate, both checked on arrival.
Can I bring pets on board?
Pets such as dogs, cats and birds are not allowed on board without our written consent, and a pet fee usually applies.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You may sail within Croatian territorial waters. The only exception is Montenegro, which requires a special licence with a fee of €400.
Will my sailing skills be checked before handover?
Yes, we may ask you or your skipper to demonstrate your sailing skills with our representative present. If we judge the skipper not skilled enough, we will assign a professional captain at your cost; refusing the assigned captain means you can't sail out and the contract is terminated without refund.
Are there restrictions on how I use the boat?
The boat may not be used commercially or handed to a third party, and smoking inside the yacht and overloading beyond its stated capacity are prohibited. You'll also need our written consent to take part in any race or regatta, to sail at night, or to sail single-handed.
What are the rules in bad weather?
Don't leave port if the expected wind exceeds 30 knots or if the port authority has prohibited sailing, and sail in keeping with the conditions to avoid straining the rig and sails. In strong wind, let the base manager know your general location to avoid unnecessary search costs.
When is the best time to sail in Croatia?
May–October, with the most reliable maestral winds and warm seas in June–September; July–August are the hottest and busiest.
