Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The operator insures the unit at its own expense for the whole lease against ordinary navigation risks. It also takes out a separate policy covering third-party civil liability from the movement of the vessel and the risks to third parties carried on board, within the policy…
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included, and on a powerboat it's the biggest variable cost. Estimated from engine power: at a typical planing cruise this boat's 300 HP engine burns roughly 45 L/h — about €88 an hour at €1.95/L. It depends heavily on speed: easing off the throttle cuts it sharply, running flat out raises it. Plan your fuel around the hours and speed you expect to cruise.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
Not personally — a skipper is included with this boat and holds the licence. Generally, though: The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Can I bring my dog or other pet on board?
Animals of any kind, even small ones, are not allowed on board unless we have authorized it in advance. If you'd like to bring a pet, ask us before your charter.
Can I pass the booking on to a friend or sublet the boat?
No. Subletting the boat to others and transferring the contract are both strictly prohibited, so the person who signs the contract is the one who charters the boat.
Who pays if we have to tow or rescue another vessel, or need towing or rescue ourselves?
Recovery, towing, salvage and rescue costs are split equally between you and us. They include the Captain's amount, damage to the vessel, legal costs, materials and fuel used. Your Driver or Captain is directly responsible for obligations arising from towing or assistance, and any tow must be reported to the authorities.
Can I bring children on board?
Yes, minors may be on board. The Driver is fully responsible for their safety and conduct throughout the charter.
Is the boat suitable for guests with health issues or mobility limits?
The boat's design may not suit people with certain physical handicaps or those under medical treatment. You guarantee the good health of yourself, your guests and the Captain before boarding, and everyone needs the visas and vaccinations required for the countries you'll visit.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
