Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Vessel provided with civil liability insurance per Italian Law 24/12/1969 n° 990. Insurance does not cover loss or damage to transported goods.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~1300 HP engine burn roughly 104 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 2184 L ≈ €4259 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The boat is for private leisure use only. You may not use it commercially, carry goods or passengers for hire, sublet it, or hand the contract to someone else.
Can I take part in a regatta or tow another boat?
You must let us know in advance if you intend to join a regatta or any nautical competition. Towing or being towed is only allowed in a genuine emergency, and dangerous activities that put swimmers or others at risk are not permitted.
What should I do if the weather turns or authorities restrict sailing?
Please do not head into open water, and return to the nearest safe harbour, whenever the sea is dangerous, the weather is bad, or the authorities prohibit navigation. The boat should never be left unattended.
Are there limits on where I can sail?
You should stay within the cruising limits the boat is certified for, and you may not leave the host country's territorial waters without our authorisation. We also ask you to call us with the boat's position at least once a week.
What happens if there's a breakdown or damage at sea?
If you have a breakdown or accident, return to the port of embarkation right away; you may only continue if we judge it safe. In an emergency you can carry out urgent repairs and we'll reimburse documented costs, and if repairs run beyond two hours you may end the contract for the unused time.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
