Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The boat is delivered insured for third-party liability under Italian Law no. 990 of 24/12/1969.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~1300 HP engine burns roughly 104 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 2184 L ≈ €4259 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
Not personally — a skipper is included with this boat and holds the licence. Generally, though: The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
Yes. The boat can't be used commercially, so no carrying paying passengers or goods, and no subletting or passing the contract on. Dangerous activities near swimmers or passengers are not allowed, and towing is only for real emergencies. If you plan to join a regatta or any competition, you need to tell us beforehand.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You must stay within the boat's approved navigation limits and within what your skipper's licence allows. You can't leave the host country's territorial waters without the owner's authorization. We also ask you to phone us at least once a week with the boat's position.
What happens if bad weather affects my trip?
Don't head out to open sea if the authorities have banned navigation or the sea is dangerous. If conditions turn while you're out, return to the nearest safe port. We aren't responsible for trips lost to weather or force majeure, and the rental period and fee still apply from the scheduled start.
What should I do if something breaks during my charter?
Head back to the departure point right away, unless we agree it's safe to continue. If there's a real risk to the boat or people, you can arrange urgent repairs yourself and we'll reimburse documented costs.
What happens if I return the boat late?
A penalty applies for every hour of delay, equal to twice the agreed hourly rental price. Please also return the boat in the condition you received it, with every item on the inventory list.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
