Île Vierge

Drop anchor off this tiny 6-hectare islet on the northwest tip of Brittany and you'll be staring up at the tallest lighthouse in Europe — a striking 82-metre granite tower with 365 steps and a beam visible nearly 50 km out to sea. The sense of remoteness here is real, with the lighthouse classified as a historic monument and the islet itself largely wild and untouched. Boat trips run to the island from the mainland if you want to get closer.
