Castle of São João do Arade

Perched between two beaches at the mouth of the Arade River, this centuries-old fortress has stood guard over Ferragudo and Portimão since the 16th century. Photogenic and a little weathered, it offers sweeping views of the river and coastline that are hard to beat — and honestly, just walking up to it feels like stepping into a history book.
