Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The operator is responsible for full coverage insurance of the boat. The charterer pays the deductibles for any insurance claims.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~29 HP engine burns roughly 2.3 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 48 L ≈ €92 at €1.91/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Norway?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: A boating licence (Båtførerbevis or recognised equivalent such as an ICC including coastal navigation) is required for vessels over 8 m or 25 HP.
Where am I allowed to sail?
Your charter covers the waters from Stavanger to Sognefjorden. If you want to go offshore or beyond this area, you need our prior written consent.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
You need the knowledge and skills to handle this yacht, and you'll sign a personal declaration of your sailing experience and crew list. If we have doubts, we may ask you to demonstrate your skills on board.
What happens if I return the boat late?
Please tell us as soon as possible. Every started day is charged at double day hire, and you cover any proven loss we suffer. If the delay was truly outside your control it counts as force majeure, but bad weather does not.
What should I do if something breaks or gets damaged?
Tell us right away so we can agree how to handle it. Repairs and changes must be approved in advance and done only at a workshop approved by the owner and insurer. For fire, theft or burglary, also inform the insurance company, and report theft or burglary to the police.
Can I use the VHF radio?
You need a valid radio license to use the VHF normally. Without one, you may only use it in an emergency, and you pay any VHF charges.
When is the best time to sail in Norway?
Late May–early September, with long daylight (midnight sun in the north) and cool, scenic fjord cruising; mild summer weather.
