Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Sailing yachts insured according to Greek law against liability to third parties and damage to hull, machinery and equipment. Owner insures against loss or damage in excess of €2,500.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~45 HP engine burn roughly 3.6 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 76 L ≈ €148 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Are pets allowed on board?
Yes, pets are welcome. We just ask for a double end-cleaning fee when you bring one along.
Will we have to show we can handle the boat?
We may ask you and your crew to demonstrate your competence by taking the yacht out with one of our representatives aboard. If we're not satisfied it's safe, we can place a skipper on board at your cost for as long as needed.
Where are we allowed to sail?
Your cruising area is the Greek seas. We also ask that you plan your route to reach your farthest port within the first third of the charter, and to be within about 40 nautical miles of base two days before you return.
What weather rules apply?
Please don't leave port or anchorage when the wind is, or is forecast to be, over Beaufort 6, or when the harbour authorities have banned sailing. Reduce sail promptly in strong conditions and don't sail at night without all navigation lights working and a proper watch on deck.
Is there anything we can't use the boat for?
The yacht is for your private pleasure only. Please don't sub-let or rent out cabins, enter races or regattas, run sailing courses, or tow another vessel except in an emergency. Fishing or diving for archaeological objects is also prohibited.
