Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer not liable for covered insurance damages unless caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
How many people can be on board?
The yacht may carry no more than eight people at sea, and we require at least one qualified skipper plus one experienced crew member aboard.
Can you refuse to hand over the yacht even if I have a licence?
Yes. If we feel you don't have enough experience to handle the yacht safely, even with a valid licence, we may require you to take a skipper before departure.
Are there any restrictions on how I use the yacht?
The yacht is for private leisure only. Without our written consent you may not race, tow, sublet, carry more than eight people at sea, or sail outside Greek waters.
Will weather ever stop us from leaving port?
Yes. For your safety, departure isn't allowed when winds exceed Force 6 Beaufort, when the port authorities impose restrictions, or if the yacht has any mechanical or safety issue.
Do I need to cover the crew's meals if I hire a skipper?
Yes. You cover the crew's food and drinks, either provided on board or as a daily allowance of around 30 euros per crew member.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
