Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: All boats insured for RC (rental without skipper) with 75€ franchise and full risk RAS with franchise equal to security deposit. Insurance does not cover sail damage except when resulting from broken mast.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~30 HP engine burn roughly 2.4 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 50 L ≈ €98 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Can you arrange a skipper or hostess for us?
For most boats we send you a list of freelance skippers and hostesses at booking, and you arrange directly with them. The Dufour 48 is the exception and comes with crew provided by us.
Can we take part in a regatta or sailing event?
Yes, but you'll need to take out additional insurance for it, as our standard cover excludes racing. Just let us know in advance so it can be arranged.
How does boarding work?
At booking we send video tutorials covering the boat, the outboard motor and the itineraries, which take the place of an in-person check-in. A boarding attendant is still there on the day to answer any questions and run the inventory with you.
Is there a recommended crew for the Dufour 48?
For the Dufour 48 we strongly recommend having two people with a nautical licence on board, given the size of the boat.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
