Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The yacht is insured for liability and hull damage. The deductible corresponds to the agreed deposit.
Do I need a sailing licence in Portugal?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: A recognised sailing licence is required — EU-issued licences and the ICC are accepted; confirm acceptance with the base in advance.
Can I bring my dog or other pet on board?
Animals are only allowed with our permission, and that permission must be given in writing. Please ask us before you book so everything is agreed in advance.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
The charterer must have the navigational knowledge, experience and permits to sail in open waters in the charter area. If you don't, you need to name a skipper who does. Please be accurate about your qualifications, because the insurer checks them after any damage and you could be liable if they were misstated.
How many people can come aboard?
Only the people on your crew list may be on board on a continual basis. Please make sure your list is complete when you book.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
You can't carry goods for payment, and you may only tow another vessel if it is in distress and no other rescue is possible. Hazardous goods are not allowed when towing. You also can't extend the charter without our consent.
What condition should I return the boat in?
Please return the boat clean for our check. If final cleaning is included in your charter, leave it broom-swept with clean dishes and cooking utensils, otherwise cleaning may be charged to you. Report any lost, damaged or non-working equipment straight away.
