Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Owner insures yacht and equipment against fire, marine and collision risks, third party damage, and any loss or damage per Greek law. Charterer relieved of liability for insured losses provided not caused by charterer's negligence or wilful default.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~74 HP engine burn roughly 5.9 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 124 L ≈ €242 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Where am I allowed to sail?
The yacht may only be taken within Greek seas unless we agree otherwise in writing. You also can't carry more people than the yacht's documents allow, or anyone who isn't on the crew and passenger list.
What experience does my crew need?
Your party must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced sailor. We may ask you and your crew to demonstrate competence by actually sailing the yacht with our representative aboard, and the time this takes counts as part of the charter.
When is it unsafe to leave port?
You should not leave port or anchorage if the wind is, or is forecast to be, over force 6 on the Beaufort scale, if the authorities have banned sailing, or if any vital equipment or the condition of the yacht and crew makes safety doubtful.
Can I sail at night?
You may only sail at night with all navigation lights working and a sufficient watch on deck. You also shouldn't sail in areas not properly covered by the charts you have on board.
What can't I use the yacht for?
The yacht can't be used for racing unless agreed in writing, for towing other craft except in an emergency, or for anything other than the private pleasure of you and your party. Acts against customs or fishing laws, or taking objects of archaeological value, are strictly prohibited.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
