Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The boat is delivered with a fully comprehensive (kasko) policy for the Mediterranean, up to total loss. The policy has an allowance (excess) covered by the charterer's security deposit.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. Estimated from engine power: this boat's ~40 HP engine burns roughly 3.2 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 67 L ≈ €131 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Can I bring my dog or other pets on board?
No. We don't allow any animals to be kept on board during the charter.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
Yes. The boat is for pleasure use by you and your crew only. You can't carry paying passengers or goods, do any commercial activity, enter regattas or nautical events, or tow other boats except in a real emergency.
What happens if bad weather is forecast?
Please follow Port Authority orders and don't sail in seas above force six or when forecasts warn of dangerous conditions. Plan your route so you can be back on time, even by returning to the port early if bad weather is coming.
What should I do if something breaks or gets damaged during my charter?
Tell us right away and don't carry out repairs without our approval. Repairs and assistance can be requested between 08:00 and 20:00. If a major engine, rigging, sail or battery failure that isn't your fault stops you using the boat for over 12 hours, we let you recover those lost hours.
What happens if I return the boat late?
Returning late, or to a different port, is treated as a delay. You would owe an amount equal to a week's hire for that period plus the costs the delay causes, such as accommodation for the next crew and moving the boat back to the right port.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
