Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Owner to insure yacht and equipment against fire, marine and collision risks, third party damage, and loss or damage in excess of security deposit (€3000). Charterer relieved of liability covered by policy unless caused by gross negligence or willful default.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Are there limits on how and where I can sail?
The yacht is for your private pleasure only and may not be used for racing or for towing other boats except in an emergency. You should stay within Greek waters, and the crew aboard must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member.
How many people can be on board?
You may carry up to 12 passengers in total at sea, in line with the yacht's official documents, and only people shown on the crew list may be aboard.
Could I be asked to prove my sailing competence?
Yes. We may ask you and your crew to demonstrate that you can handle and navigate the yacht safely. If we aren't satisfied, we can place a skipper aboard at your expense for as long as needed for everyone's safety.
Are there weather restrictions while sailing?
You should not leave port or anchorage when the wind is, or is forecast to be, above force 7 on the Beaufort scale, when the authorities have prohibited sailing, or whenever conditions or the state of the yacht make safety doubtful. Reduce sail promptly as conditions require.
How should the marine toilets be used?
Please only put organic matter into the heads, paper, sanitary products and similar items must not be flushed. Any blockage during the charter or found on return carries a fixed repair charge per toilet plus parts, so it's worth briefing everyone aboard.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
