Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The owner insures the yacht and equipment as per Greek law against fire, marine and collision risks, third party damage and any loss or damage in excess of the security deposit.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The yacht is for private pleasure only, so no racing, no towing other boats (except in an emergency) and no subletting without the owner's written consent. Fishing, underwater fishing and customs rules must be respected, and taking archaeological objects is forbidden. Breaking these rules can end your charter.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
You must not leave a port or anchorage if the wind is or is forecast to be over force 7 Beaufort, or if the harbour authorities ban sailing. Please note that if weather delays your return, you still pay the late-return charge, so plan your last days with some margin.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You can cruise within the Greek seas only. Your route should reach the farthest port from the return base within the first third of the charter, and two days before the end you should be within 40 nautical miles of the base.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
Your party must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member. We may ask you and your crew to demonstrate your handling skills at sea before you set off. If we are not satisfied, we may place a skipper aboard at your expense or end the agreement.
How many people can come aboard?
Up to 12 passengers, according to the boat's official documents, and only people on the crew list. You can change crew during the charter as long as a new crew list is issued for the port authorities.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
