Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer responsible for damages caused by culpable or malicious behavior or contrary to skipper's provisions.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~60 HP engines burn roughly 4.8 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 101 L ≈ €197 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Who decides the route if there's a skipper on board?
When a skipper runs the boat, they decide the itinerary based on weather, navigation and mooring needs, and may change times, routes or destinations to keep everyone safe. These safety decisions can't be grounds for a refund.
Can we bring pets or alcohol on board?
Animals and spirits aren't allowed on board unless you've agreed it with us beforehand. Smoking isn't permitted on deck, and only in the cockpit when the boat isn't underway and with care taken not to damage anything or disturb others.
Are there things we're not allowed to do with the boat?
The boat is for pleasure only, so no carrying goods or paying passengers, no commerce, no taking part in regattas, and no towing another vessel except in a real emergency. You also shouldn't hand the boat over to anyone outside your crew.
What are the rules around bad weather?
Please follow Port Authority instructions and don't sail in seas greater than force six, or whenever weather bulletins forecast dangerous conditions. The boat should be anchored in a safe spot with someone keeping continuous watch.
What if the boat needs repairs during our trip?
If damage forces a stop for repairs, we'll keep the stoppage as short as possible. If it lasts no more than 48 hours straight there's no compensation, but beyond that we'll refund you in proportion to the time lost.
