Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer and crew acknowledge participation at own risk. Comprehensive insurance (hull and equipment) and liability insurance (minimum €1 million) exist for yacht.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
How many people can be on board?
For our bareboat charters you may board the yacht with a maximum of four persons. Please keep within this limit for safety and insurance reasons.
Are there limits on where and how we can sail?
You agree not to leave the maritime region agreed in advance, and not to sail at night or single-handed. Please keep a close eye on the weather and do not sail in winds of 30 knots or more.
What happens at the handover instruction?
You will receive a thorough instruction based on the charter manual. If our instructor concludes that the yacht cannot be handled safely, the charter may be dissolved, with one instruction day charged and the remainder refunded or applied to another offer.
What condition should the yacht be returned in?
Please return the yacht in orderly condition with all equipment cleaned and stowed. The toilet, sewage tank and bilge should be dry and clean, otherwise a cleaning fee applies, with an extra charge for a blocked toilet.
What is the skipper's role on a skippered charter?
We appoint an experienced skipper who handles the yacht safely, gives safety instructions and decides all security-related matters. On request the skipper will also teach you the boat's specific sailing technique during the trip.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
