Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Client liable for damage to furnishings, assemblies, and equipment caused during charter period, except wear and tear from normal use.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~55 HP engine burn roughly 4.4 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 92 L ≈ €179 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Can I bring animals on board?
No animals may be brought or kept on board by you or anyone else without our express written consent, so please ask in advance.
Are there limits on where and how I can sail?
You must stay within the navigation area set in your contract, in safe areas where the yacht can anchor securely, and never in countries at war or affected by unrest. The yacht can't be used for carrying passengers or goods commercially, for regattas without our consent, or for hazardous water sports, and you mustn't leave the mooring…
Does my skipper's competence need approving?
Yes. Your chosen skipper must be approved by us, and we may ask them to prove their qualifications for the yacht. If we judge their knowledge or licence insufficient for the type of yacht, we can ask you to replace them.
What happens if bad weather affects the trip?
We're not responsible if bad weather or port authority orders delay your departure or interrupt the journey, and the charter remains valid even if the yacht can't sail for some days. Please plan with this in mind.
What should I do if something breaks during the charter?
We cover repairs needed from normal wear, hidden defects, or force majeure, while you handle ordinary upkeep to keep the yacht in good condition. If a repair is urgent, you may arrange it directly with our written authorisation and we'll refund the cost; the skipper should report all accidents, damage and anomalies to us.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
