Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Boat delivered with comprehensive policy for Mediterranean up to total loss (deductible covered by renter's deposit) and third-party liability policy mandatory by law. Third-party liability does not cover lessee's property loss or transported goods.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Can we bring animals on board?
No, pets and other animals are not allowed on the boat.
Are there limits on where we can sail?
Yes. The charts we provide cover a recommended cruising area, and if you wish to sail beyond it you must carry your own detailed charts for those waters. Please also follow any port authority bans and do not sail in seas above force six or when dangerous weather is forecast.
Can we use the boat for racing or towing?
No. The boat is for your private pleasure only, so regattas and other nautical events are not allowed, and you must not tow or be towed by other vessels except in a genuine emergency. Commercial use and carrying goods or paying passengers are also prohibited.
Does the operator assess the skipper's competence?
Yes. We may review the skipper's knowledge and skills, and if at our discretion they are not sufficient for the boat and the safety of those on board, we may decline to hand over the boat unless you can provide another suitable skipper.
What happens if something breaks down at sea?
Please notify us straight away and do not carry out any repairs without our prior authorisation. You may keep sailing only if it does not worsen the damage or endanger anyone. Requests for repairs or assistance can be made between 8:00 and 20:00.
