Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer is responsible for all loss or damage to the Yacht and equipment not covered by insurance policy, except damage from normal and natural wear.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~90 HP engines burn roughly 7.2 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 151 L ≈ €294 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
What can't I use the boat for?
The boat is for your private pleasure only. You may not race it, tow other craft (except in an emergency), take it outside Greek waters, or sublet it, without our written consent.
How many people can be on board?
You may not carry more people at sea than agreed, and everyone aboard must appear on the crew/passenger list.
Can you test our sailing competence?
Yes. We may ask you and your crew to demonstrate competence by sailing the boat with our representative aboard. If you don't satisfy us, we can place a seaman aboard at your expense for as long as we consider necessary for safety.
When should I not leave port?
Don't leave port or anchorage if the wind is or is forecast to be over Beaufort 6, if the authorities have banned sailing, if any vital part isn't working, or if fuel is low or conditions are unsafe. Don't sail at night without all navigation lights and a proper watch on deck.
How should I plan the route?
Plan your itinerary so you reach the farthest port within the first third of the charter, and so that two days before the end you're within about 40 nautical miles of the return port.
