Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Owner insures Yacht against fire, marine, collision risks and third party damage; Charterer relieved of liability for losses covered by insurance unless caused by gross negligence or willful default
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~160 HP engines burn roughly 12.8 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 269 L ≈ €525 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
How many experienced people do we need on board?
Your party must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member, and you may not exceed the maximum number of people on the yacht's licence. Everyone aboard must appear on the crew or passenger manifest.
Might we have to prove we can handle the yacht?
Yes. We may ask you and your crew to demonstrate your competence by sailing the yacht with our representative aboard. If we are not satisfied, we can either end the agreement or place an experienced seaman aboard at your expense for as long as needed for safety.
Where are we allowed to sail?
The yacht is for private pleasure within the Greek seas only. Plan your route so you reach the farthest port within the first third of the charter, and two days before the end stay within 40 nautical miles of the return port.
Can we sail in any weather or at night?
Please do not leave port or anchorage if the wind is or is forecast to be over Beaufort force 6, if the authorities have banned sailing, or if any vital equipment is not working. Night sailing is only allowed with all navigation lights working and a sufficient watch on deck.
Can we race the boat or tow another vessel?
No. The yacht may not be used for racing or for towing other craft except in an emergency. If towing ever becomes unavoidable, contact us immediately so we can agree the price before the yacht is towed.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
