Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Vessel is fully insured against third party damage, fire, explosion, natural disasters, marine and collision risks, and equipment loss/damage as specified.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~78 HP engines burn roughly 6.2 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 130 L ≈ €228 at €1.75/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in Tanzania?
Valid sailing license recognized and valid in Tanzania required in ORIGINAL for entire charter duration.
Are there security cameras on board?
Yes, we run one or more security cameras on board to protect our clients from theft. If you'd prefer not to have them, just let us know.
Will our sailing competence be checked?
You must have the nautical knowledge to operate the boat safely. If we find at check-in that you or your crew lack the necessary skills for a bareboat charter, we may require you to take one of our professional skippers at your cost.
What's the navigation area?
Sailing is limited to Tanzanian territorial waters. Leaving them requires our written permit and you'd bear all associated costs; the operator may also restrict the boat's range or ban night sailing if conditions are unsafe.
Can we bring animals aboard?
Only with our express permission, and an additional cleaning fee applies.
On a skippered charter, who's responsible for damage?
If we provide a professional skipper, they're responsible for the underwater and navigation parts of the boat; everything else remains your responsibility. On a bareboat charter, all damage above and below the water is yours.
