Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Lessee responsible for damages caused during charter period.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~78 HP engines burn roughly 6.2 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 130 L ≈ €222 at €1.71/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in Spain?
A recognised sailing licence is required, with an ICC typically requested for non-Spanish skippers chartering a bareboat.
Can I bring animals on board?
No. Animals are not allowed on board, along with weapons, drugs and anything else prohibited under Spanish law. You may also only carry up to the number of people allowed by the vessel safety certificate.
Are there restrictions on how I use the boat?
The boat is for your own private recreational use with family, friends or your staff. Subletting, carrying paying passengers or goods, commercial fishing and taking part in regattas are not permitted.
Will you check the skipper has enough experience?
Yes. We can decline to hand over the boat if the skipper does not appear to have the right skills and competence, even with a licence presented. In that case the contract ends and we return the amount paid less 20% for office expenses.
Where am I allowed to sail without a skipper?
On a bareboat charter your sailing area is always limited to the area covered by the sailing licences you provide. Please make sure your qualifications match where you would like to cruise.
What happens if the boat breaks down during our trip?
Contact us immediately so we can send our technical team or authorise a repair. For minor issues that do not stop the boat moving, you may need to head to a port on Mallorca for assistance; we also travel to Menorca and Ibiza if a mechanical failure prevents the boat from moving.
When is the best time to sail in Spain?
April–October across the Balearics and Costa Brava; reliable warm summers, busiest in July–August with the occasional afternoon thermal breeze.
