Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Boat covered for accidental damages, third-party claims, and accidental pollution. Driver and crew personal effects and third-party liability not covered - they can take out individual insurance at their own expense.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
How many people do we need to operate the boat?
You'll need at least two adults in good physical condition on board to work the locks and handle manoeuvres. The boat's driver must be an adult and is responsible for the boat, the equipment and everyone aboard.
Can the operator refuse to hand over the boat?
If the driver doesn't seem fit to take responsibility for the boat, we may offer a holiday tied up at the quay, limit the cruising area, or decline to hand the boat over. This is to keep everyone safe.
Are there limits on where and when we can cruise?
Please keep to the waters we permit and follow river navigation rules and the authorities' instructions. You shouldn't cruise after nightfall, and you shouldn't sail in winds above Beaufort 3.
Is there anything we're not allowed to do with the boat?
Please don't tow other craft, sub-hire or lend the boat, or exceed the maximum number of people allowed on board. The boat is for personal enjoyment only.
What happens if the boat breaks down?
Call us right away and we'll guide you on what to do; we provide assistance during working hours, seven days a week, free of charge unless the fault is yours. If a breakdown that isn't your fault keeps the boat out of action for more than 24 hours, we'll refund pro-rata for the lost time.
