Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Client assumes all responsibility for damage to persons, things, or the vessel.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included, and on a powerboat it's the biggest variable cost. At a typical planing cruise this boat's 600 HP engine burn roughly 90 L/h — about €176 an hour at €1.95/L. It depends heavily on speed: easing off the throttle cuts it sharply, running flat out raises it. Plan your fuel around the hours and speed you expect to cruise.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
Where am I allowed to sail?
You may sail only in authorized waters within the Mediterranean Sea, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
Is there a minimum boating experience requirement?
Yes. You must hold a valid boating licence that you have held for at least one year.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
In the event of bad weather, with waves above 50 cm and increasing, you are entitled to a refund or to reschedule your trip.
Can I extend my charter or sublet the boat?
Any extension must be requested at least 12 hours in advance and approved by us in writing. You may not sublet the boat or use it for any purpose other than the one declared.
Is there a penalty for returning the boat late?
Yes. A penalty of 10% of the daily rate is charged for every hour of late return.
When is the best time to sail in Italy?
May–October, warm and settled in summer; July–August are hottest and busiest, with afternoon thermal breezes common.
