Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The owner insures the yacht and equipment against fire, marine and collision risks, third-party damage, hull/machinery/equipment damage and sea pollution liability, as per Greek law. A deductible applies, depending on the yacht's value.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included, and on a powerboat it's the biggest variable cost. Estimated from engine power: at a typical planing cruise this boat's 350 HP engine burns roughly 53 L/h — about €103 an hour at €1.95/L. It depends heavily on speed: easing off the throttle cuts it sharply, running flat out raises it. Plan your fuel around the hours and speed you expect to cruise.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Are there limits on how I can use the boat?
The boat is for your party's private pleasure only. Racing, towing other craft (except in an emergency), subletting and weapons on board are not allowed. You also can't sail at night except in an emergency.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You need to stay within Greek territorial waters unless we agree otherwise in writing. Plan your route so you reach your farthest port within the first third of the charter. Two days before the end you should be within 40 nautical miles of the return point.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
On a bareboat charter your group must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced sailor. We may ask you to show your competence at sea with us aboard. If you don't pass, we can end the agreement or place a skipper aboard at your expense.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
For safety you must not leave port or anchorage when the wind is, or is forecast to be, above Beaufort 6, or when harbour authorities ban sailing. Weather doesn't excuse a late return, so plan some buffer.
What happens if I return late?
Late returns are charged at a penalty rate. On bareboat charters that is the daily charter rate plus 50% for each day or part-day. On skippered charters it can be up to 200% of the charter fee for the overrun. You may also be asked to cover any loss from the next charter.
