Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Guest and skipper are jointly and severally liable for all contract violations and indemnify owner for any claims arising from facts occurring during rental period or as consequence thereof.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~80 HP engine burn roughly 6.4 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 134 L ≈ €261 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans.
Do I need a sailing licence in Italy?
The skipper needs a valid sailing licence and VHF certificate, ideally issued by their country of residence (an ICC is widely accepted).
What happens if you're not satisfied with the skipper's competence?
We may assess the skipper's knowledge and ability at handover. If we judge them insufficient for safely handling the boat, we can require a skipper of our choosing aboard at your expense; declining may end the agreement.
Are there restrictions on how I can use the boat?
The boat is for leisure use only. You may not carry cargo or paying passengers, take part in regattas or races without our written consent, give practical sailing lessons, or tow or be towed except in a real emergency.
Can I bring pets aboard?
No, animals are not allowed on board.
What should I do in bad weather?
Please don't leave port, or return to the nearest safe harbour, if sea and wind reach or are forecast to reach Beaufort force 5, or if the condition of the boat or crew could compromise safety. Plan your route to allow for an early return if the forecast turns.
Are there limits on where I can sail?
You must stay within the area defined in your contract and may not leave Italian territorial waters without our authorisation. You must respect local port, customs and fishing rules, and avoid any zones where navigation is restricted.
About Porto di Castellammare del Golfo
Tucked into the northwest corner of Sicily, this marina doubles as a working fishing port, so you'll find yourself surrounded by local boats, fresh catch, and the kind of unglamorous authenticity that's hard to find. Read more →
