Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Charterer liable for all loss or damage.
Do I need a sailing licence in Croatia?
At least one crew member must hold a recognised sailing licence (ICC or national equivalent) plus a VHF/SRC radio operator certificate, both checked on arrival.
Do I need to prove my sailing experience?
You must have good seamanship and enough experience to command a yacht of this class, or appoint a capable skipper. If neither you nor your skipper holds the necessary certificate, we may decline to hand over the boat or appoint a skipper on your behalf.
Can I sail anywhere I like?
You should stay within our maritime region. Leaving it requires our prior written consent.
Is there a weather limit on when I can sail?
Yes. You should not leave the protected harbour when winds over Force 7 on the Beaufort scale are forecast.
What condition should the boat be returned in?
Please return the yacht in proper working order, tidy, with all equipment properly stowed and the tanks full. Sailing shoes should be worn on board throughout, and you should keep a simple log.
What do I do if something breaks or goes wrong at sea?
Contact the base immediately by phone for any damage, collision or unusual event. If you need a tow, always use the yacht's own line and don't agree to any towing or salvage terms. Repairs over 100 euros need our approval first.
When is the best time to sail in Croatia?
May–October, with the most reliable maestral winds and warm seas in June–September; July–August are the hottest and busiest.
