Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Full comprehensive insurance and third-party liability included in charter fee. Charterer responsible for insurance excess amount.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~114 HP engines burn roughly 9.1 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 191 L ≈ €277 at €1.45/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in United States?
Requirements vary by state and operator; no national sailing licence exists, so charter companies rely on a detailed sailing résumé (some states require a boater education card).
Is there a minimum age to charter?
Yes, the person chartering must be at least 22 years old.
What if my sailing experience isn't enough for the boat?
We may decline to hand over the yacht if we feel you don't have the competence to operate her safely, even with a valid licence. In that case you can take a professional skipper at your own expense, and the security deposit still applies.
Are there things I'm not allowed to do with the boat?
The yacht is for private leisure sailing only. Commercial use, professional fishing, transporting people or goods, racing or regattas (unless we approve), and lending or subletting the boat to anyone else are not permitted.
Do I need to handle customs when sailing between islands?
Yes. The Caribbean has strict customs rules, so you must clear in and out (registration and any fees) each time you arrive at or leave a new island state.
If you provide a skipper, who is responsible on board?
The professional skipper is responsible for safe navigation of the yacht. You and your crew remain responsible for your own actions, especially during manoeuvres.
When is the best time to sail in United States?
Varies widely by region; the Florida Keys and Caribbean coast run year-round, while New England and the Pacific Northwest peak June–September.
