Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The Owner insures the yacht and equipment against fire, marine and collision risks and third party damage. The Charterer is relieved of liability covered by the policy, unless the loss was caused by gross negligence or willful default.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Are there limits on how I can use the yacht?
Yes. The yacht is for private pleasure only, so no racing, no towing other boats except in an emergency, and no subletting without the operator's written consent. Fishing and archaeological rules are strict, and breaking them ends the charter.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
You must not leave a port or anchorage if the wind is or is forecast to be above Beaufort 6, or if the harbour authorities ban sailing. You should also stay put whenever conditions or the state of the boat or crew make safety doubtful.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You can sail within the Greek seas only. You are also expected to plan the trip so you reach your farthest port within the first third of the charter, and to be within 40 nautical miles of the return base two days before the end.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
This is a bareboat charter with no crew supplied. Your party must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member. We may ask you to show your competence by sailing the yacht with our representative aboard. If it isn't enough, we may place a seaman on board at your expense.
What happens if I return the yacht late?
Late return is charged as demurrage at the daily charter price plus 50%, for every day or part of a day until the yacht is back. If you leave it at the wrong place, you also cover the transfer costs.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
