Frequently Asked Questions
Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Owner insures Yacht against fire, marine, collision risks, third party damage and loss or damage. Charterer relieved of liability for insured losses unless caused by gross negligence or willful default by Charterer.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Where can we take the yacht?
You're welcome to cruise the Greek seas, but the yacht must stay within Greek waters unless we agree otherwise in writing. Please plan to reach your farthest point in the first third of the charter and to be within 40 nautical miles of the return point in the final two days.
Is there a limit on the number of people aboard?
Yes, you can carry up to the maximum the yacht's builder/CE certificate allows, and everyone must be on the crew list. We ask that your group include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member.
Will you check our sailing ability before we leave?
The charter is based on the sailing competence you've stated in writing, and we may ask you and your crew to show you can handle the yacht safely at sea with one of us aboard. If you don't satisfy us, we may place an experienced sailor on board at your expense for as long as needed.
Can we use the boat for racing or towing?
No, the yacht is strictly for your private pleasure. Please don't use her for racing or for towing other craft except in an emergency, and don't sublet her without our written consent.
When should we stay in port for safety?
Please don't leave port or anchorage if the wind is or is forecast to be over force 6 on the Beaufort scale, if the authorities have banned sailing, or if any vital equipment isn't working properly. Don't sail at night without all navigation lights on and a proper watch on deck.
About Port of Volos
The Port of Volos sits right in the heart of Thessaly's capital, putting you steps away from the city's famous tsipouradika — the waterfront tavernas where locals pair tsipouro shots with endless small plates of seafood. Read more →
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
