Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. For damage it doesn't cover, your liability is usually limited to the security deposit, except where the operator's terms say otherwise. Operator terms: The Owner insures the yacht and equipment against fire, marine and collision risks, third party damage, and loss or damage above an excess whose amount is not stated.
Do I need a sailing licence in Greece?
Not if you add a skipper — this boat offers one, who holds the licence. Generally, though: Two crew with proof of competence are required — a skipper holding an ICC or national equivalent and a co-skipper who signs a declaration of sailing experience.
Where am I allowed to sail?
You can cruise within the Hellenic seas only, unless we agree otherwise in writing. You need to plan your route so that you reach your farthest port within the first third of your charter and are within 40 nautical miles of the return point two days before the end.
What sailing experience does my crew need?
Your party must include at least one qualified skipper and one experienced crew member, and we rely on the competence you state in writing. We may ask you to show your handling skills at sea at the start. If we're not satisfied, we may place a seaman aboard or end the charter, and the test time counts as charter time.
What are the weather limits for leaving port?
Please don't leave a port or anchorage if the wind is, or is forecast to be, above Beaufort 6, or if the harbour authorities ban sailing. You should also stay in port if the yacht has unrepaired damage or weather or crew condition makes safety doubtful.
What should I do if something breaks or I need a tow?
Get our consent before arranging any repair, and keep your receipts. Repairs for normal wear are refunded at the end of the charter. If there's an accident or damage, have the nearest port authority record it in writing and let us know straight away.
What happens if I return the yacht late?
Late return is charged as demurrage at the daily charter price plus 50% for each day or part of a day until the yacht is back. If you leave it somewhere other than the agreed place, you also cover the cost of moving it.
When is the best time to sail in Greece?
April–October, hot and dry with the strong northerly Meltemi wind peaking in July–August, especially across the Cyclades.
