Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Lessor provides all-risk insurance covering civil liability, damage, total loss, and theft (except outboard motor and dinghy which must be secured on board each evening). Insurance does not cover transported persons or personal effects.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~114 HP engines burn roughly 9.1 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 191 L ≈ €372 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in France?
No formal licence is legally required to skipper a bareboat sailing yacht, though charter companies expect a sailing résumé and usually an ICC or equivalent.
Where am I allowed to sail?
Navigation is allowed in the zone between 143 and 153 degrees West and 14 and 18 degrees South. If you'd like to sail outside this area you must request written permission from us in advance, and an insurance surcharge would apply.
Will my sailing experience be checked?
You confirm that the person in charge has the knowledge needed for the planned navigation. We reserve the right to refuse handover if the skipper or crew don't appear sufficiently competent, regardless of the references, sailing CV, or licences presented, in which case the contract is cancelled and your payments refunded.
What uses of the boat are not allowed?
The boat is for pleasure use only. Trade, professional fishing, and transport are not permitted, and subletting or lending the boat is strictly forbidden. Taking part in a regatta requires our agreement and separately negotiated conditions.
How many people can be on board?
You agree to carry only the number of passengers allowed under the regulations for this boat.
Are there any rules for the dinghy and outboard at night?
Yes. The outboard engine and the dinghy must be brought back on board every evening, and the outboard should be secured to the boat with a padlock.
