About this boat

Sail Tahiti is pleased to offer you, exclusively in Polynesia, the new Excess 14 Owner’s Version. Perfectly suited for navigating the more remote regions of Polynesia, the Excess 14 is equipped for autonomy and adventure, featuring solar panels, a watermaker, and a dinghy with a 20 HP outboard engine. A true sailing boat, it offers real pleasure under sail, making passages between the islands enjoyable and comfortable for everyone on board. Whether your plans involve exploring secluded atolls or enjoying relaxed island-hopping, this catamaran provides both reliability and freedom. Inside, the Excess 14 offers an elegant, functional and bright living space, fully equipped for up to eight guests. The volumes have been carefully preserved to provide excellent headroom and a warm, contemporary atmosphere. In the hulls, you will enjoy wide, comfortable beds and bathrooms with separate showers. Storage and refrigeration capacity are generous, making the boat ideal for extended cruises to the outer islands. The layout includes four double cabins and three bathrooms, with a spacious owner’s hull on the starboard side. The cockpit features a large dining table that comfortably seats eight guests, and the saloon and cockpit both offer inviting relaxation areas. Bedding and towels are provided, and the Extended Pulse Line rig enhances the boat’s performance under sail. Optional extras include Stand-Up Paddleboards, snorkelling equipment and fishing rods. You can also choose a one-way charter, allowing you to start or finish your cruise on another atoll, with professional delivery of the boat to or from the base in Tahiti.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this boat insured, and who pays for damage?
Yes — every boat on charter.boats is insured by its operator; we require it. The policy covers the vessel for fire, collision and third-party liability. You're only responsible for damage it doesn't cover, and that's capped at the security deposit. Operator terms: Boat Owner carries insurance for accidental damage including third-party damage. Theft or loss of personal effects excluded.
How much will fuel cost?
Fuel isn't included — you return the tank full. This boat's ~114 HP engines burn roughly 9.1 L/h while motoring, so a typical week (about 3 h a day, ~21 h) works out to roughly 191 L ≈ €372 at €1.95/L — scale it to your own plans. Many skippers run one engine on passage to roughly halve fuel use — ask your operator if that’s fine for your boat.
Do I need a sailing licence in France?
No formal licence is legally required to skipper a bareboat sailing yacht, though charter companies expect a sailing résumé and usually an ICC or equivalent.
Will my sailing skills be checked before I take the boat?
Yes. We reserve the right to assess your and your crew's handling and sailing skills, including by coming out to sea with you. If the trial isn't successful, we may require a professional skipper for as long as needed for the safety of the boat and crew, at your cost.
Can I sail at night?
Sailing at night isn't allowed without our prior authorisation for a specific route and date. Sailing within the lagoons is only permitted between 8am and 4pm.
Are there weather limits on when I can leave port?
Yes. Please don't leave port or anchorage if the wind exceeds force 6 on the Beaufort scale or such wind is forecast, if the authorities have banned sailing, or if the boat, crew or conditions present any danger. We may also send you sailing and routing instructions in bad weather.
Do I need to share my itinerary?
Yes. Your sailing itinerary must be approved by us before departure, and you should keep us informed of your position whenever it changes.
How may I use the boat, and can I take part in a regatta?
The boat is for pleasure sailing only, with no commercial use, professional fishing, transport or towing. You may only take part in a regatta with our prior authorisation, which can mean extra costs and a higher deposit; unauthorised racing is forbidden. You may carry only the number of people listed on your rental invoice.
